A Story of Hope With Char Hope

Rooting Recovery

Hope • Healing • Growth

It has been a great journey for me since walking in the doors at Char Hope 9 months ago. With a lot of patience and tolerance teamed up with the structure the farm provides, I can honestly say that I am happy with the person I'm becoming today. As my faith in God continues to grow, so do my relationships both in and out of Char Hope. The mix between recovery meetings and the life skills that this program provides have set the solid foundation necessary to carry on with a productive and respectable life moving forward.

Back in 2020 my road to recovery began to take shape. I bought into the 12-step process and turned my will over to a power greater than myself. Since then, I have experienced countless ups and downs and learned valuable lessons along the way. One question would always come to mind. What is Gods will for me? I've come to realize that the answer to that question is “to do what is meaningful, not what is easy”. That understanding spawned a meaningful position for me at Char Hope as the educator of the program. I was a bit shocked at first when the idea was presented to me. After running it by my sponsor, we came to the conclusion that my deepest prayers had been answered. I firmly believe that God has placed me here to share my life's experience providing hope and strength to the guests at Char hope. At this point I firmly trust the process that is materializing right before my eyes. It is said that people who struggle with addiction treat it best through connection, a sense of belonging and purpose. All 3 of them have been achieved at this point and my level of gratitude is indescribable. I've learned that gratitude is an action word so I choose to express that through my movements wherever I go today.

As the educator at Char Hope, I have been given the pleasure of guiding new guests through their first 8 weeks in Char Hope. This has been a major factor in my own recovery journey. Being given the opportunity to see the growth and change in each individual has been instrumental for me. It has given me a strong sense of purpose and belonging which is something my life had been missing for a long time. These feelings reflect outwardly into our education lessons. It is a non judgmental, laid back and safe place where guests can dig deep and speak about the causes and conditions of their past, present, as well as future goals moving forward. The changes I witness in our guests, as well as the feedback I receive from my coworkers solidify the fact that the effort I put in on a daily basis is making a difference every day. Words barely describe the level of gratitude and satisfaction I have today for where my life within Char Hope and our community stands at this moment.

Moving forward, my plans are to keep showing up for my life that this program has allowed me to create. I have committed to an additional 6 months after graduating and I couldn't be more excited about the opportunity. My one main goal is for me to find a safe place of my own as close to Char Hope as possible where my daughter can come and go as she pleases. I'm confident that as long as I put my recovery first, all of my dreams and goals are possible.

God is truly doing for me what I could never do by myself. I will continue strengthening that connection while practicing patience and I trust the pieces will continue falling into place as they have been. Thank you to all of you that believe in me. I'm forever grateful.

Sincerely,

K.R.
